Matthew doesn’t
sweat the small— but important—stuff
when entertaining. The daisies on the
tablecloth are scrapbooking cutouts
attached with glue dots. “In minutes you
can give this nice detail to a simple
tablecloth,” he says.

“Why not have fun with
fruit?” says Matthew, who cut melons
into springtime shapes. Cut the ends off
a melon, slice it into 1/2-inch-thick planks,
then use 2-inch metal cookie cutters to
cut shapes. To keep the cutouts fresh,
toss with lemon juice and refrigerate for
up to four hours.

Mother’s Day is a time to
celebrate the connection between moms,
daughters, and sisters. Hence Matthew’s
through-the-generations display. Prop
photocopies or computer printouts of
photos inside clear jars or canisters,
and group into a conversation-starting
3-D collage. AD
